Little Boxes has welcomed and worked closely with thousands of artists and organizations. Since 2013, LBT has been a creative hub for creators, accommodating everyone from beginners to seasoned professionals.

Production Amenities and Options at Little Boxes Theater.

Little Boxes Theater provides a versatile 2,600 sqft area with 18-foot ceilings and 14-foot structural rigging beams, perfect for photo and video productions. The space includes a 30ft wall of mirrors, a wall of windows, and a white wall. One side features a custom 30×40-foot sprung dance floor, while the other is usually set up with tiered risers and proscenium-style platforms. This configuration creates a cozy lounge area with chairs, couches, tables, and trunks. Additionally, the space offers a bathroom, an operational vintage clawfoot tub, and a kitchenette for your convenience.

Curtain and Flooring Room Setup Options:

  • Black or white curtains can be arranged on 3-4 sides to accommodate a variety of configurations.
  • The space can be customized into either an all-black box or an all-white room, complete with Marley flooring for a professional look.
  • Custom setup changeovers take 2-4 hours and must be requested at least 2 weeks before your booking. There is a $400 minimum fee, subject to staff availability and existing programming.

In House Lighting Options:

  • Natural light from west-facing windows, perfect for golden afternoons and early evenings. (Blackout curtains available)
  • Godox SL200 (4) with modifiers.
  • Godox TL60, TL120, TL180 (LED cylindrical light fixtures).
  • LED RGBW color wash (18) overhead.
  • Dimmer control via Scene Setter 48.
  • DURACAST – DRPL- FL-5000D, 100-240V, 50/60Hz DMX channel.
  • ARRI 650 (3) portable lightweight fresnel spotlights.
  • ARRI 350 (1) portable lightweight fresnel spotlight.
  • Par 56 tungsten/incandescent hot lights (6).
  • Fresnel 500-watt tungsten/incandescent hot light (1).
  • Kino Flo 4ft 4 bank (4).
  • Strand Lighting IANEBEAM 1000W Spot/Flood (2).
  • Dot Line RPS Studio CooLED 150 Daylight Fresnel (1).

Photo Equipment:

  • Einstein 650’s (4).
  • Alien Bee B800’s (2).
  • Various modifiers, including strobes, umbrellas, beauty dishes (2), soft-boxes, strip boxes, octo-box, and pocket wizards.
  • Camera options: Panasonic GH5, Olympus OMD EM1 Mark II, Sony A7RIII with a variety of lenses for Panasonic and Olympus, plus a 28-70 Sony lens and adaptable Canon lenses.

Video Equipment:

  • In addition to the listed photo cameras, the space is equipped with two Canon C200 cinema cameras.
  • Multicolor LED theater light grid and various hot lights (as listed above).
  • Matthews Scrim and Flag Kit (18×24″ / 24×36″).
  • Black flats and colored gels with clips.
  • Projectors (4).
  • 30ft by 15ft semi-transparent projection scrim.
  • 6ft by 10ft projection screen.
  • Fog machines (4).
  • Hazers (3).

Equipment Flexibility:

You’re welcome to bring your own equipment, or work with our team to use our in-house gear and support services. In-house support is available at $50 per hour (for up to 2 staff members).

We offer loading dock and drive-in garage access (coordination with LBT staff required). The facility includes two large freight elevators, a passenger elevator, and a wheelchair lift in the lobby. The space is fully ADA accessible and located on the second floor in Suite 2S.

  • Two couches and an assortment of prop chairs (including unique pieces donated by the SF Opera).
  • 60 stackable grey/red chairs and 30 white folding chairs.

  • A variety of folding tables in small, medium, and large sizes.
  • Three high-power fans.
  • Wall of mirrors.
  • Professionally engineered sound system by ‘Really Good Sound,’ featuring 2 monitors, 2 mains, a subwoofer, and a mixer, with plug-and-play audio out cord and dongle for laptop or device connectivity.
  • Clothing racks (2-3 available upon request).
  • Steamer (available upon request).
  • Light table/portable stage (8ft by 4ft) on 4 locking caster wheels.
  • Motorized rotating circular wooden stage/platform on 4 locking caster wheels.
  • 14.5ft pole (spinning or stationary) available for installation or removal.
  • Interlocking foam puzzle mats (50 available).
  • In-house Lyra hoops (37″ and 39″) and aerial fabrics available in red, black, and blue options
  • Vintage clawfoot tub connected to a 40-gallon hot water heater, (BYO towels, no in-theater laundry).

Kitchenette:

  • Espresso machine, toaster oven, microwave, air fryer.
  • Electric tea kettle, blender, juicer, rice maker, catering food warmer.
  • Fridge.
  • Mugs, cups, and utensils.
